My Masjid

My Masjid

My Masjid is an app and gift box designed to welcome and connect newcomers to their mosque community.

The App

My Masjid is a app designed to strengthen community engagement within Muslim American Islamic Centers by addressing barriers to inclusion and access. I created a mobile app concept that serves as a comprehensive guide for anyone looking to integrate into a new Muslim community, whether they are relocating, traveling, newly converted to Islam, or already part of the local population.

Using Bloomington, Indiana as a case study, I developed an outline for My Masjid that addresses the specific needs of underrepresented groups within the Islamic Center of Bloomington. The features are designed to be easily adapted to other Muslim communities across the United States.

Through user interviews, I identified common stressors such as unfamiliarity with mosque layouts, uncertainty around how to get involved, and lack of awareness of community events. My Masjid is structured to reduce these points of friction by offering clear navigation tools, community resources, and real time event updates. The goal is to create a more welcoming and informed experience for all members of the Muslim community.

The Gift Boxes

As an extension of the My Masjid project, I designed welcome gift boxes to help new members feel at home and connected within the mosque community. These boxes are distributed at social events or made available for purchase and delivery through the My Masjid app.

Each box includes a curated selection of Islamic items and a QR code that links directly to the app, where recipients can access information about upcoming events, community groups, and opportunities for involvement. The packaging features the Arabic greeting "As-Salamu Alaikum" (Peace be upon you) followed by "Welcome to ICOB" (Islamic Center of Bloomington), creating a warm and personal introduction to the community.

This design emphasizes hospitality and accessibility, reinforcing the app’s mission to make every newcomer feel welcomed and informed.
