Material and Form Explorations
I created three 3D projects using a variety of mediums, each of which taught me crucial skills in working with three-dimensional formats.
Design Process
The first project, titled "Growth," was made using wood. It represents an abstract form of movement, with each triangular module increasing in size as you walk around the piece. It takes on the appearance of a potted plant. Through this project, I learned the fundamentals of woodworking and how to safely operate tools such as a miter saw and band saw.
The second piece, "Tranquility," visually resembles two Japanese Torii gates. Strings connect the gates, creating the illusion that they are merging into one. Suspended raindrops add a sense of falling rain to the composition. I used Rhino software to model the gates as flat-pack designs and then assembled them into 3D structures using laser-cut acrylic.
The final piece, titled "Constellate," consists of eight identical modular forms that can be assembled in over ten different configurations. Each module resembles a star on its own, but when combined, they create unique silhouettes that are more visually engaging than the individual parts. I hand-cut every piece using foam board, a box cutter, and an X-Acto knife.
